YAA Confessions: My Friends Are Enablers

By: Maggie

And they're spectacular!

If you ever want to see me shrieking "Are you serious? Are you serious?!" over and over again in front of Roscoe's Chicken and Waffles, this is how you do it:
  1. Get me an autographed Melina Marchetta book.
  2. That's pretty much all it takes.

My friend Anna, who has just been given Most Favored Enabler status, came for a visit and surprised me with Looking for Alibrandi. The book itself was shriek-worthy because it's the one Marchetta I don't own.  If you've seen the US edition, you know why. It's also the one Marchetta I haven't read. I wanted to save it for after Quintana, when I'd be desperate for my next Marchetta fix. As I was oohing over the cover, Anna told me to open the book.

Initiate full fangirl mode. As I explained to the people looking at me with a mixture of curiosity and fear, Melina Marchetta signed this book! Melina Marchetta signed this book... to me!! It's now nestled on my Marchetta shelf. Now the question is whether to wait for Quintana or not. Hmm...

  2. SO, so, so jealous - everyone seems to have a signed Marchetta apart from me! I'm not bitter, honest (am really) xx

  5. Wow! What a great friend. I definitely vote you read it (unless you're an audiobook junkie like me - in which case you should listen to it because the narrator is amazing).

I'm loving your MM shelf - and laughing. You just had to get all the matching versions AND pre-order them from Australia didn't you? Hahaha. I know a fellow MM addict when I see one.

P.S. Some random person on paperbackswap advertised the American crap cover version BUT THEN sent me that cover that you have up there. It was basically the best surprise ever. Perhaps not as good as finding the book signed inside, but still...

    1. Finnikin was the first audiobook I ever got through. I'll have to give Alibrandi a try too! Thanks for the suggestion, Catie.

I'm such a nerd. After going on and on to my cousin about my autographed book, she was like, WTF are you going to do with these signed books when you die?! I was like, I'll take 'em with me! Library coffin!!

  6. Mmmm, Roscoe's. Yum! What an amazing friend! I only have the US cover of Alibrandi but I listened to the audiobook from the library. Loved it.

Also, I'm thinking you two should email me your addresses. (I think my email will be attached to this comment in your blogger) I have a freaking badass set of postcards that I know you both would appreciate. The recipient list is like a who's who of fucking awesome people.

    1. YES! Okay, if we can't figure out your email from here, I'll email your Readventurer address. I used to have Baby-Sitter's Club postcards when I was younger. Memories.
